Why would he stare at me at church a lot, and now avoid me?

There is this guy, and he is around 35 years old. I am 27 years old. He would stare at me a lot at church, and even when I went down to the altar to get prayed for. I could tell he has feelings for me. One time, I went to the altar and people prayed for me. When they were done praying for me, I went to sit down on a chair. He was looking at me a lot and smiling at me. Then, he was online, and he decided to chat, but not that much. Then he stopped talking to me. All I told him is that ":) my daughter is asleep". I didn't mean anything by it. I was creating conversation. I found out he doesn't want to talk to young females. He only wants to talk to older women as friends. He said he doesn't want a relationship. He told someone that I said, "I love you", but I never said that. All I said is that I care about you, but in a way of brotherly love in Christ. It wasn't as a romantic way. I admit I like him, but I am not ready for a relationship. Why would he avoid being friends with me? He talks to another girl at church that is young and they are friends. I don't understand this. One day, he came up to me when I was carrying my baby in the car seat and he said, "You are strong". I said, "she is heavy". At church he stares at me a lot, but doesn't say anything to me. I felt like he was playing games with me. I don't understand what he wants from me. After he started avoiding me, he didn't show up at church this week. He won't even open up to me as friends. It's like he is afraid of women or young women. What do you think is bothering him?
